A checklist of what you need to get your driving lessons started:
In preparation to drive, you must: have the right driving licence; be the minimum driving age and meet minimum eyesight rules
If you have not done so, now is the time to apply for your provisional licence. It costs £34 (at present) to apply.
To practice or take lessons you will need a provisional licence.
You have to study to pass your Theory! Recommended materials are the Official Theory and Hazard Perception App from the DVSA in addition to the ‘Driving the Essential Skills’ book by the same company. Do practice by taking a mock theory test. When you are ready, book your theory test, it costs £23 (at present) to apply.
Once you have passed your theory test you can then apply to take the Practical Driving Test, depending on the timing this could be a longish wait and at present will cost £62.
Once passed you can drive so long as you have an insurance policy in place that permits you to drive without supervision.
